Lightning frequency decreases with increasing latitude.
The flash density for Sylvania is about 0.5 to 1
flash/km²/year (dark green) while that for Florida is
8 to 16 flashes/km²/year. Nevertheless, one person
was killed by lightning in Gogebic county during the
period 1950-2008 while standing under a tree.
